How to read tarot cards
A tarot deck has 78 cards in two groups. The 22 Major Arcana (The Fool to The World) describe the big themes and turning points of life — love, fate, transformation. The 56 Minor Arcana describe everyday situations, split into four suits tied to the four elements:
- Wands (Fire) — passion, energy, ambition, creativity and action.
- Cups (Water) — emotions, love, relationships and intuition.
- Swords (Air) — thoughts, truth, conflict and communication.
- Pentacles (Earth) — money, work, health and material security.
Upright vs reversed
An upright card expresses its energy openly and directly. A reversed card (drawn upside-down) usually means that energy is blocked, delayed, turned inward, or expressed to excess — not simply "the opposite." Read the reversal as a nuance, not a verdict.
Getting a useful reading
Ask an open question ("What should I focus on in my relationship?") rather than a yes/no one, draw a card, and notice your first reaction before reading the meaning. On each card page below you'll find its upright and reversed meanings plus what it says about love, work, and the advice it offers.
